What Are the High Holidays?

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are a time for reflection, renewal and connection. We welcome the Jewish New Year with prayer and the sounding of the shofar, then gather again on Yom Kippur for a meaningful day of forgiveness and spiritual renewal. At Chabad of Hamden, everyone is welcome—regardless of background or experience.

Join us for the High Holidays. The prayers are warm, the people are friendly and everyone feels at home.  

Whether your background in Jewish prayer and practice is extensive or limited, the services will leave you feeling enriched, connected, uplifted and energized to start your New Year in the most meaningful way.

Many of the prayers are recited by the congregation in unison, specifically in English, so that everyone can participate. Hebrew/English prayer books are used throughout the service. The rabbi provides an English running commentary of explanatory and meaningful insights. 

So you're invited! All you have to do is register below. 
New this year: Reservations are requested. For the safety and security of all, a manual, holiday-friendly access code will be sent approximately 24 hours before Rosh Hashanah to those who have reserved. Please do not share your code with others.

Rosh Hashanah Services - September 12: 

Morning Service: 9:30 AM

(Because the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat, the shofar is not sounded on Saturday.)

Morning Service: 9:30 AM

Sounding of the Shofar: 11:45 AM

Tashlich Service: 5:00 PM

We invite you to consider a suggested High Holiday contribution of $180 per adult and $180 per family for all children attending. Your generosity helps us provide meaningful, welcoming services in a beautiful and secure setting. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their ability to contribute.
The High Holiday season is a special time to increase in charity and strengthen Jewish life. Your generosity enables Chabad of Hamden to provide year-round programs, classes, holiday celebrations and support for individuals and families throughout our community.
